After workshopping with the folks at Facebook HQ, our team won WhatsApp with our ideas on how to best illuminate what set them apart from the other Facebook entities; their promise for privacy.
WhatsApp has long been globally regarded as a safe space to be 100% genuine with their privacy features. Get real, get silly, intimate, weird, express guilt, be overoptimistic, get awkward, share impulsively as you humanly need to. Whatever you have to say, you can. Because it’s between you.
Following the win, I led a team of designers to create an illustration system of visual expressions that articulated the safety of known intimacy, keeping in mind to include cues of international communication and that we couldn’t actually share conversations, because WhatsApp and we would never.
